There’s Nothing Like Mardi Gras
Mardi Gras Dates
Mardi Gras, similar to Christmas, is an entire season – not only one day. That being stated, Fat Tuesday is the greatest day of festivity, and the date it falls on changes each year. You’ll see that Fat Tuesday can be any Tuesday between Feb. 3 and March 9.
There is no celebration in the world like New Orleans Mardi Gras!
The 2018 Mardi Gras season will begin January 6, also known as Twelfth Night. Which here in New Orleans because of the official start of the Carnival season. Mardi Gras day this year falls on Tuesday, February 13, 2018. Here in New Orleans, you will shift directly from the Christmas holidays to Carnival season. Twelfth Night has always been an important part of New Orleans. Celebrating and observing as far back as 1800’s.
It’s also crucial to note that since Carnival season doesn’t start until Twelfth Night, faithful observers of tradition wait until that special day to have their first piece king cake for the year. This is a big local tradition that all New Orleanians and observers can’t wait to enjoy.
